About

Hey! I'm Ryan Krause, some guy who codes a lot.

I'm currently a Senior at Iowa State University studying Software Engineering. I've worked on a TON of projects over the years, both good and bad. I've learned a lot, both in and out of school. Within school, I've had a lot of classes that helped me learn important concepts, and I've also been a Teaching Assistant in some of my programming classes to help other students learn.

Outside of classwork, I've had an Internship with Epic that's helped me learn working with others and what it's like out there in the "real world." I've been an active member of Iowa State's Game Development Club for the last three years, working my way up to Secretary, and now Vice President. I've helped plan meetings, send emails, organize events, hold workshops, and created a number of games within the club.

This webpage is just to showcase some of the projects I'm proud of, as well as show off my general experience. I'd love to get in contact with you, whether it's to talk about game development, programming in general, or just want to chat.

Work Experience

Epic Systems

Software Developer Intern

May 2016 - Aug 2016

As an Intern, I worked with a team of 10 developers on creating an iOS application in Obj-C, a new language for me. This application pulled data from different areas within Epic's database to display to the user. At the end of the summer, I presented my project to a large group of other interns and employees.

Iowa State University

Teaching Assistant

Aug 2015 - Current

As a Teaching Assistant I Teach Java, C, C++ to students. I also grade tests and projects, as well as help answer programming questions during office hours.

Play-Well TEKnologies

Summer Assistant

June 2015 - Aug 2015

This was a summer job in which I taught Engineering concepts to kids ages 5-12 using Legos. For example, I would build and explain the different parts of a catapult, then have the kids build their best catapult that could shoot the farthest and most accurately. I learned how to take complicated engineering concepts and explain it so that little kids would be able to understand.

Iowa State University

Peer Tutor

Feb 2014 - May 2015

I taught Calculus to students in a group setting. This was my first tutoring job in college, so I had to adapt my old tutoring habits to new college level courses.

Club

In Fall 2013 I went to my first Game Development Club Meeting. I met others also interested in game development, made some (terrible) games, and learned a lot in general. In December 2014 I became Secretary for the club, in charge of interacting with the members as well as being a voice on the executive team. I continued to grow my knowledge, started hosting workshops, and started to record tutorials to help others learn.

In May 2016 I was elected Vice President of the club. My duties shifted towards planning and organizing large events, and I began to host a lot more "workspace" events, a place where anyone in the club could come to our lab and work on a game. Minicade mentioned above was created by me for club members to learn more about creating games.
